One dead, one injured in apparent family dispute in Arcadia

DeSOTO COUNTY, Fla. - Authorities are searching for a man they believe killed one man and injured a woman in an Arcadia home Thursday.

According to the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office, a 911 call came from a home in the 2400 block of Owens Avenue at 5:15pm.  Responding units arrived to find one person apparently beaten to death with a blunt object, and one person in need of medical care.

The deceased person has been identified as George Burnham.  Joan Burnham was taken to the hospital for treatment.  Both victims lived in the home.

An investigation has identified Karl Burnham, who also lives in the home, as a suspect.  A warrant has been issued for 1st Degree Murder, Attempted Murder, and Grand Theft Auto.

UPDATE 3/28/2014 2:10 P.M.: ABC 7 spoke with DeSoto County Sheriff's Office Major James Vitale, who reported that Karl Burnham was taken into custody Thursday night around 9 p.m. Victim Joan Burnham has been transported to an unspecified hospital for treatment of what Vitale described as "severe injuries." As of this update, the crime scene investigation is still ongoing. We'll have more during the 5 p.m. broadcast.
