FLORIDA (WWSB) – 12 more cases of the Zika virus were reported during the past week.
The Department of Health also reported the first sexually transmitted case of 2017. The person infected with Zika through sexual transmission is in Pinellas County. They were not identified but it was indicated a sexual partner might have contracted the disease while traveling to Cuba.
As of Monday morning, Florida had 128 reported cases, 97 were classified as “travel related.”
Zika is particularly dangerous to pregnant women because it can lead to severe birth defects.
