NORTH PORT, Fla. -- After years of noise complaints by North Port residents, an emergency medical helicopter will move from its current location in the city.
The private medical helicopter company Bayflite has a lease with North Port that expires on December 31st. The company has been leasing space near city hall since 2012 to provide quicker response times for trauma cases.
The nearest trauma centers are in Manatee and Lee counties.
An email sent to the city earlier this month announced Bayflite would be moving its heliport outside of the city.
Last year a number of complaints of noise from the helicopter prompted the city to look for other possible locations for the medical service.
City commissioners will talk about the issue at their next meeting on Monday night.
