NORTH PORT, Fla. -- North Port Mayor Jim Blucher says he's confident in the city’s police department despite a handful of officers being put on leave.

ABC 7 has obtained redacted memos informing three officers that they are on paid leave and need to turn in their vehicle, badge, and firearm. Police officials say with ongoing investigations they are unable to talk about who and why.

They do say it has nothing to do with an incident last month involving two other officers being put on leave surrounding allegations of sexual activity with a woman at a party. One of those officers took his own life.

Blucher says he's confident the situation is being handled the right way. "There is a whole story to this which is going to unfold as we go. Investigations are taking place. I have all the faith in the world in our police department, our chief of police, our city manager, that they are on top of it. Believe me, action will be taken if that's what the facts show."

Police officials with the department say a state statute keeps them from making details surrounding complaints against law enforcement officers public until their investigation is complete.
