North Port man on bicycle struck and killed by driver

NORTH PORT - A North Port man was killed after being hit by a car while riding his bike.

The accident happened Tuesday around 9:30 pm at Tamiami Trail and De Leon Drive.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 65-year-old Robert Huffman of North Port was riding his bike heading west on U.S. 41 toward the intersection, when a driver, who was directly behind him, hit Huffman and was thrown from his bike.

The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Caltlyn Tundo of North Port, suffered only minor injuries.

Charges are pending.
