ENGLEWOOD - Detectives have charged a North Port man with two burglaries in the South Gulf Cove area where hurricane shutters were removed from the houses.

Between late July and early September 2013, the Sheriff’s Office received reports of several burglaries in the South Gulf Cove area at houses where the home owners were out of town and had put up hurricane shutters while they were away. In these cases, some of the shutter panels had been removed to from a door or window not easily visible from the road or by neighbors.

During the investigation, crime scene personnel located blood at one of the houses on broken glass at the point of an attempted entry. The blood sample was analyzed and matched with DNA from 31-year-old Nikolay Vladimirovic Ivanenko.

Based upon the DNA match, detectives requested and received a warrant for Ivanenko’s arrest on charges of Burglary of an Unoccupied Dwelling concerning one of the reported burglaries. He was arrested on the warrant by the North Port Police Department, booked into the Sarasota County Jail and transferred to the Charlotte County Jail on December 3.

While he was still being held at the Charlotte County Jail, detectives charged him on Monday with an additional burglary at another South Gulf Cove residence. In that case he was charged with Burglary of an Unoccupied Dwelling and Grand Theft. He is currently being held on a total $60,000 bond.
