NORTH PORT, Fla. -- Warm Mineral Springs is in jeopardy of closing once again. North Port and Sarasota County leaders have failed to agree on a long-term vendor for the North Port landmark.
After hearing two pitches from vendors, Sarasota County voted for Jebco, while the North Port city commission chose the current short-term vendor, National and State Park Concessions. Their current lease expires on August 31st.
Without a long-term vendor agreement, Warm Mineral Springs would be forced to close again on September 1st.
The decades-old attraction closed in July 2013 when the two governments, who jointly purchased the property in 2010, could not agree on a management plan for the spring. It reopened 9 months later under the current short-term plan with limited services.
It’s not clear when city and county leaders plan to discuss the issue further.
