North Port-After much debate and a potential law suit, north port city commissioners finally approved a plan for a new dollar general store in the city.

The city agreed on a final concept plan monday night at the commissioners meeting. The new store will go up at the corner of cranberry and price boulevards.

The project caused controversy among residents living in that area.  Many residents say they fear a shopping center would take away from the quiet community living, and bring a lot of traffic to the neighborhood.

The dollar general store is just the first phase of a three phase project to go up in that area.
