NOKOMIS, Fla. - The well known North Jetty Fish Camp in Nokomis will be closing at the end of the year; though only temporarily we are told. Still, it's a concern for regulars while the county says there is nothing to worry about.

In nearly 70 years there, the hangout on the water has only been closed a handful of days; mostly because of storms. Now it could be closed for weeks. Many just want to make sure it does in fact reopen.

It's believed to be an old trolley car placed on the county owned property around 1946. For the past three decades Marilyn Sawyer has operated it. She says she's ready for retirement and her lease is up and the end of the month.

The county is building a new $1.4 million restroom and concession stand just a few hundred feet away. They say the new concessionaire will run and wants to keep both. The shut down coming simply because the new facility is running behind schedule and they don't want to hand over one without the other. "Don't be alarmed. We are not closing it down for good. We are just closing it so we can get in there and clean it up, make some minor repairs to it, get it reopened. It's going to be staying. It's part of the long term plan," says county spokesperson Curt Preisser.

Sawyer says she's optimistic too. "I am pretty sure too that it will open up on like the 15th."

Some of the regulars are leery. They say the county has been trying to close down the fish camp for years. Concerned the county might get in and find more problems then they expected. Similar to Warm Mineral Springs.

We are told all six employees will retain their jobs when it reopens.
