SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. -- Problems with high bacteria levels at Nokomis Beach continue.

Sarasota County kept the popular area closed to swimming over the Fourth of July weekend. Testing of the water on Friday showed elevated levels of bacteria primarily found in animal waste.

More testing is being done, and the soonest Nokomis Beach could reopen would be Tuesday.

In the meantime, beachgoers are advised to stay out of the water at that beach.

Other nearby beaches, including North Jetty Beach, tested within acceptable limits, and are still open.
