VENICE- The U.S. Coast Guard is looking for a small vessel that's missing off the coast of Venice Beach.

The St. Petersburg of USCG tells ABC 7 that a mayday call came in around 8 o'clock Thursday night.

Due to poor communication, the Coast Guard could only determine that there was a male and female voice during the mayday call, and that they were missing about 17 miles off the coast.

A water and air search ensued, but was halted Friday at noon because of weather conditions.  There was no further contact with the missing vessel.

We'll continue to follow this story and bring you any updates.
