SARASOTA, Fla. -- An engineering team is ready to present plans for the controversial lift station project planned near downtown Sarasota.

The public can check out the plans for Lift Station 87 on Thursday night.

Construction for the above-ground facility near the U.S. 41-301 split has stopped and started for years. The project is now estimated to cost around $27 million.

City leaders and project managers are now looking at making changes so the facility can handle a Category 3 hurricane.

The meeting Thursday begins at 7pm in the SRQ Media Room at the City Hall Annex building in downtown Sarasota (1565 1st Street).
