SARASOTA, Fla. -- More parking is on the way to downtown Sarasota. Commissioners approved plans Monday for a new parking garage at the corner of State Street and Lemon Avenue.

The city owns a parking lot on the southeast corner of the intersection and plans to start construction on a multi-level garage this summer. When complete early next year, it'll be several stories high and include office and retail on the first floor.

The site sits just one block off the heart of Main Street.

The total cost is expected to be about $12 million.

This is the city's 2nd parking garage project in the past 4 years. This newer one won't be quite as big as the other one on Palm Avenue.
