New park preserve planned in south county

SARASOTA CO., FL - A 287 acre nature preserve in south Sarasota County is being named after former county commissioner Jon Thaxton.

The preserve, which is next to  Oscar Scherer State Park will be known as the Scherer Thaxton Preserve.

Sarasota County plans to open the park, which will feature public amenities such as fishing and a jogging trial, next year.
