NORTH PORT, Fla. -- The City of North Port may soon have a new military school.

According to the Sun Herald, a former Sarasota Military Academy teacher and administrator has sent a letter to Sarasota County Schools announcing intent to file an application for the new charter school.

If approved, the school would serve grades 6 through 12 and be called North Port Collegiate Military Academy.

Currently a site location is being sought, along with a board of directors and funding.

If all goes as planned it could open by the 2015-16 school year.
