BRADENTON, Fla. - Motorworks Brewing opened for business Wednesday in Bradenton, and the opening of the new microbrewery was highly anticipated by locals.
It is located on 9th Street West between the Downtown Riverwalk and McKechnie Field.
Bob Haa, Jr. has been brewing craft beer for 25 years and now he is the new head brewer at Motorworks. "I am having a great time. It is a fun job, it is hard work and it is something that you have to start and finish in the same day. But when you are done, you have created something."
Many locals have been counting down the days to the grand opening.
Clive and Robin Miller first came by while the place was still under construction. "He gave us an estimated date of when they would be open and see how it was coming along," says Robin.
“It finally opened, and we are so glad," says Clive.
The brewery is located in a historic building that is the former home of a Hudson automobile dealership. An old picture shows a Hudson and the front of the building in the early 50's.
On Wednesday, the microbrewery was unloading huge fermenters that will soon be set up inside the old showroom. Motorworks cut special holes in the floor to make room for the stainless steel vats.
Haa says their goal is to produce and distribute a great local beer. "The idea right now is to really concentrate on the Florida market and really get established before we go anywhere else."
The beer will be created, brewed, package, shipped and sold from right there in downtown Bradenton.
That is great news to local customers. “This is local beer made right here in this country, and we want to support it," says Clive Miller.
"It is great. It is going to be good for the community; it is going to be good for everybody. It is a beautiful place," says Larry Knodle.
Motorworks is the first of three breweries scheduled to open in Manatee County.
