SARASOTA - The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office investigated a suspicious package found near a fire hydrant in the area of Clark and Beneva roads in Sarasota. Thankfully it turned out to be nothing dangerous.

It was the 2nd suspicious package of the day reported in Sarasota.

A passerby called in the report at 5:45 p.m. Authorities responded and closed the area to traffic, particularly Beneva between Queen & Clark, and some residents were being notified to stay in their homes until the investigation was complete.

The sheriff's office has since determined that the package was not a threat.  They've begun clearing the area and all roads are open again.

Earlier Thursday, authorities responded to a reported suspicious package in downtown Sarasota.

I truly hope it turns out to be nothing.
