SARASOTA, Fla. -- The U.S. Open of lawn bowling is coming to the Suncoast, as Sarasota has been awarded the 2016 and 2017 tournaments.
The events will take place at the Sarasota Lawn Bowling Club next to the Municipal Auditorium on North Tamiami Trail.
Participants from as many as 52 countries may participate in the two tournaments. “Even though the sport has been around for hundreds of years, in the U.S. it’s quite relatively unknown. And we think if we bring exposure to the sport, just like curling did in the Olympics, two Olympics ago, that we can bring revitalization to the sport in the U.S.,” says Daniel Jittu of the Sarasota Lawn Boling Club.
Lawn bowling is a sport in which the objective is to roll biased balls so that they stop close to a smaller ball called a "jack" or "kitty".
