SARASOTA - There was a celebration of achievement at Thursday night's NAACP Freedom Awards Banquet at the Hyatt in Sarasota.

ABC 7's Bobeth Yates was there to receive the Sponsorship Award.

The Rising Star Award went to Maiyah Newsome, and the Lifetime Achievement Award went to Carl Stephens. ABC 7's Linda Carson recently featured her as an Amazing Woman on the Suncoast.

Stephens spent 37 years of her teaching career in Sarasota County, but continues to serve her community long after her retirement in 1992.
