SARASOTA - When a teacher of a music program for young children learned that one of her students had cancer, she organized a series of concerts to raise money for her.
Music Together programs help children learn -- from their earliest ages -- through music. And the benefit shows -- one was held in Sarasota last weekend, with others in Tampa and St. Petersburg -- invited families for free to take part.
They asked for donations to help 4-year-old Teeja Johnson, who is battling neuroblastoma, and her parents with the expenses that come with cancer treatment.
“This little girl is a champion, she is a warrior. She is fighting very hard. This evening she is in the ICU unit at All Children’s,” said Allison Wilkins at the Sarasota concert.
She says that the prognosis is good right now, but that even if she's cured, Teeja will need follow-up treatments until she's in her late teens to make sure the cancer does not come back.
