A man in Manatee County faces charges related to a car crash, in addition to an attempt at escaping arrest.

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office says a deputy saw 39-year-old Richard Potere crash into four separate vehicle while driving a Chevrolet Silverado at Bayshore Gardens Parkway and U.S. 41 on Friday, December 6 at approximately 2:30 p.m. Potere's attempt at fleeing north on U.S. 41 ended when he crashed the vehicle into the fence of a restaurant. Potere allegedly resisted arrested – and continued to do so – leading the deputy to use his taser twice.

While in custody, MSO says Potere managed to slip his handcuffs around from behind his back and kick out the rear window of the deputy's vehicle. Another pursuit ensued – this one on foot – and the deputy once again took Potere into custody.

MSO reports that the Chevrolet Silverado the suspect was driving had been reported stolen on Thursday, December 5. Potere faces charges that includes motor vehicle theft, resisting arrest and fleeing at a high speed.
