BRADENTON, Fla. - A man was shot to death in what authorities say appears to have been an accidental shooting in his apartment.

22-year-old Austin Brunson was pronounced dead upon the arrival of EMS on Saturday when a gun his roommate Kyle A. Guessford was carrying, fired and struck Brunson in the head, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The shooting happened at their apartment in the 2700 block of 50th Avenue West.

Brunson and Guessford were roommates and two other subjects were at the residence visiting at the time of the shooting, the report states.

Guessford was in his room checking out several accessories he had just purchased for his pistol. He exited his room with the firearm in hand, entered the living room and switched the weapon mounted-flashlight on and the firearm discharged, the report states.

There was no fighting or arguing prior to the incident, which appears to be accidental.

The investigation will continue, the report concludes.
