SARASOTA - An accident shut down a major route through Sarasota Saturday afternoon and sent a person to the trauma center.

Sarasota Police say it happened just after 1:30 on U.S. 301 at 18th Street, when a motorcycle crashed into a car.  Officers say it looks like the bike's accelerator got stuck and the bike rear-ended the car.

Bayflite took the biker to the hospital with numerous broken bones. We have no word of injuries to anyone in the car.

There sure have been a lot of Motorcycle accidents in the past weeks. I think cars need to be more aware of them and be more careful. On the other hand, Motorcycle drivers should slow down and not weave in and out of lanes as some do.
It's so sad to hear of all the people losing their lives this way.
