LONGBOAT KEY, FL. - Firefighters from Manatee and Sarasota County battled a fully-involved house fire on Longboat Key Thursday.

The victims, a woman, her daughter and grandson, were in the home just before 10 am, when the fire broke out.

Firefighters arrived less than 5 minutes after it happened. They say the house was already fully involved and there was no hope of saving it. Their attention turned on trying to get the fire out to save neighboring house that was only 20 feet away.

“My daughter and my grandson and I were at home this morning and having breakfast, and my daughter was in the back room, and all of a sudden there was just a huge conflagration in the middle bedroom where I had stack of paintings. I don't know if the paintings caught on fire somehow,” says Homeowner Joan Bergstrom.

She says those paintings were oil paintings and the fire started from there. She said had a fire extinguisher, but she couldn't get the pin pulled out to make an effort and save her home from the fire. She ended up running out with her daughter and grandson.
