Mote releases turtles fitted with trasmitters
SARASOTA - Two Kemp’s ridley sea turtles are back out at sea and carrying some high tech gear on their backs.
The two endangered turtles were released Thursday off Honeymoon Island in Pinellas County after finishing their rehab at Sarasota’s Mote Marine Laboratory.
Mote scientists fit them with satellite transmitters that will allow them to keep track of the turtles as part of a long term conservation study.
The turtles, named Allison and Squeaky, were rescued in October in Lee County. They were floating and unable to dive down due to red tide blooms.
