Mixed reactions to Zimmerman verdict

SARASOTA, Fla. - So in the wake of the Zimmerman trial, where do we go from here? We asked that simple question of Suncoast residents today in both Sarasota and Bradenton, and the answers aren't so simple.

When we asked Jordan Evans, a delivery man in downtown Bradenton, where does the nation go from here in the emotionally charged acquittal of George Zimmerman in the death of Trayvon Martin, he didn't take long to answer.

"To go from here, we put George Zimmerman in jail," he shot back.

Evans has strong opinions--and he's not alone. Gwen Calloway watched quite a bit of the trial... and doesn't see much positive going forward.

"You asked me if there's any positives and I said 'No, racism still exists and it's very awful," she said.

But others didn't see race as a factor.

"No, I mean everyone is talking about race, but I think there are a lot of people out there with other agendas that concern race and they bring it to the discussion," he said.

Others on Main Street in Sarasota...and old Main Street in Bradenton wanted to talk about another issue--a neighborhood watch volunteer carrying a loaded weapon.

"Yes, guns are too prevalent, Look at the people who are dying everyday from guns," said Tom Wentzel of Sarasota.

Still others say...lessons or not, let's move forward.

"The legal system has run its course and it's time to move on," said Mike Gold of B'town Coffee.

But even that opinion has two sides as well. While some want to move on, others say this issue is far from over.
