SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. -- The number of foreclosures in Sarasota County dropped significantly last month.

According to the Sarasota County Clerk’s Office, there were 135 new foreclosure filings in April; that's down 17% from March.

However, just across the county line in Charlotte County, the number of foreclosures is soaring. According to court records, foreclosures were up 59% in Charlotte County last month.

ABC 7’s Josh Taylor is taking a closer look at the numbers and will have more tonight on ABC 7 News at 5.

I'm an attorney at Ark Law Group. My firm helps homeowners avoid foreclosure. What we're seeing is uneven recovery. Urban and suburban counties are seeing significant decreases in foreclosure, while home prices are up, but rural counties are still struggling. We're expecting the trend to continue downward in rural counties for some time still.
