BRADENTON, Fla. -- E-mails documenting how the Manatee County School District spent sales tax bond money in 2009 have disappeared.

According to the Bradenton Herald, the school board is bringing in attorneys to help auditors in its investigation of the misspent money.

Auditors are trying to figure out how $8 million of a $45 million sales tax bond was spent without proper documentation or authorization. But a previous server crash wiped out many emails the auditors needed to help determine who authorized spending the money.

The district is investigating 57 megabytes worth of the emails it managed to retrieve.
