CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- A builder is needed for an expansion of the Punta Gorda Airport.

The Charlotte County Airport Authority Board put out a bid for the project last week. Under the plan, the Bailey Terminal will triple in size from 16,000 square feet, to 50,000.

Two more gates will also be added, enhancements will be made to security areas, and more ticket counters will be put in.

The expansion will cost about $11 million. Airport officials hope to begin construction by October.
