SARASOTA - A memorial skate camp is planned this week to honor a Sarasota teacher and skateboarding coach killed in a car crash.

Daniel Giguere, or "Coach Dan," as he was known, died on February 8th in a car accident.

Now the Coach Dan Memorial Spring Skate Camp will offer free skate lessons for children ages 7 to 13.

While there is no cost for the camp, donations will be accepted for Giguere's family. “Not only to help Coach Dan's family, but for the kids to let them know that as a community we can still come together, and teach them and give them courage through skateboarding,”

To take part in the skate camp, participants must have a waiver on file at Payne Park.

The camp is being sponsored by The Compound Board Shop and Payne Skate Park.
