SARASOTA, Fla. – Saturday marks ten years since an 11-year-old Sarasota girl was murdered.

Carlie Brucia was abducted and murdered on Super Bowl Sunday in 2004. The abduction was captured on surveillance cameras behind Evie's Car Wash on Bee Ridge Road. The Suncoast case drew national attention as Carlie went missing.

Her body was later found behind the Central Church of Christ in Sarasota. And that's where a 10th anniversary candlelight memorial service will be held for Carlie, Saturday at 6:30pm.

That's located at 6221 Proctor Road in Sarasota, just east of the bridge that crosses I-75.

Since Carlie's death, the church has sponsored safety rallies, along with continuing its campaign to promote child safety through an organization called the Believers Against Abuse and Neglect of Kids.

Joe Smith was arrested for the crime days later, and convicted of Carlie's murder in 2005. He now sits on death row.

everyone MUST teach their kids to NEVER get into a vehicle with a stranger. teach your kids how to fight off a would-be attacker by kicking to the groin and gouging the eyes. give your kids a pocket knife so that in an emergency they can stab an abductor.
