SUNCOAST -- In addition to Sarasota's downtown Memorial Day parade, there wee several other events planned across the Suncoast on Monday morning.
In Manatee County, a service began at 9am at Veterans Park in Bradenton, right behind the hospital on 2nd Street East.
In Venice, a touching ceremony was held in Patriots Park in front of about 500 people. They sang patriotic songs for each branch of the military, they laid wreaths, they heard from local leaders and their proclamations about this being Memorial Day.
There were also speeches about family and comrades lost over the years; a day to remember not only how they died, but how they lived, as well. “Well I appreciate it; one of the speeches here in regards to not how one dies, but how one lives. Yes, we do remember how they live,” said ‘Spags’, a Vietnam Veteran.
In North Port, a wreath laying and memorial ceremony began at 10:30am at Veterans Park near the North Port Library.
And in Englewood, at 9:30am a service began at Gulf Pines Memorial Park on Englewood Road.
