SARASOTA, FL. – A Massachusetts man is dead after crashing his motorcycle Monday afternoon on the Ringling Causeway Bridge.

According to Sarasota Police, witnesses told officers at approximately 2:45 p.m., 54-year-old Thomas Ballerino, who was not wearing a helmet, was weaving in and out of traffic while driving eastbound on the John Ringling Causeway Bridge. He then sideswiped a vehicle, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle and crash.

Ballerino was taken by Bayflite to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, where he later died.

The crash backed up traffic on the John Ringling Causeway for quite some time.

The crash is still under investigation.

Sorry for the family's loss but this is what gives Motorcycle drivers a bad rap to much of this type of thing happening swerving in and out of traffic.
