BRADENTON -- Manatee Memorial Hospital went into lockdown early Saturday morning over concerns of retaliation for a gang shooting.
A man walked into the hospital shortly after 2 a.m. with a gunshot wound to his right shoulder. The man said someone shot him near the Manatee County Fairgrounds in Palmetto. After warning that the shooting was gang-related, the hospital went on lockdown, police say, due to concerns of a retaliation shooting.
“The hospital, since there was speculation that it was gang related, went on lockdown,” Bradenton Deputy Chief Warren Merriman told The Bradenton Herald (http://www.bradenton.com/2013/10/19/4780930/police-manatee-hospital-placed.html). “There were three officers at the hospital from the time of the shooting until 3 a.m.”
No retaliation shooting occurred, and the lockdown was lifted. The Bradenton Herald reports that police are looking for a suspect.
