MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A Myakka City teenager riding a dirt bike was killed after being in a head-on collision with an SUV.
It happened on 61st Avenue East near the intersection with 249th Street E on Friday night just after 6 p.m.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Cadillac SRX driven by a Myakka City resident was traveling eastbound when the driver decided to pass the slower-moving vehicle in front of him. The Cadillac moved into the westbound lane -- traveling into the path of 15-year-old Jeffrey Dahl and his dirt bike.
Dahl was pronounced dead at the scene. The FHP report notes that the driver was cited for Improper Passing, but no criminal charges have been filed.
There was a 14-year-old girl passenger in the Cadillac. Both she and the driver were not injured.
