BRADENTON, Fla. -- Medical issues are forcing one of the top high school football coaches in the country to take a year off.  Manatee High's Joe Kinnan has requested a one-year medical leave.

Kinnan, who has led the Hurricanes to 5 state championships, previously took five years off beginning in 2000 to recover from prostate cancer.

Manatee High radio announcer Dave Bristow tells ABC 7 that he spoke with Kinnan Friday, and that Kinnan intends to return to the sideline in 2015.

The announcement is just another issue in a rough year for the Manatee High program.  Former assistant football coach Rod Frazier was accused of inappropriately touching students and staff.  He pleaded no contest and will serve three years probation and serve six months on house arrest.

Then last season's starting quarterback Josh Meyer was accused of Lewd & Lasvious Battery, a charge he has pleaded no contest to and will serve one year of probation.
