Man sentenced for killing restaurant manager over $35 bill

SARASOTA, Fla. - Juan De Dios Rodriguez has been sentenced to 26 years in prison for his role in the death of a popular Sarasota restaurant manager.

Rodriguez, a documented gang member according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 11 year in prison.  He also received a 15 year sentence for violating probation.

In July 2013, Rodriguez was one of three men who left the New Dynasty restaurant without paying their bill.  When confronted in the parking lot by manager Andrew Tian, Rodriguez punched Tian, causing him to suffer severe head trauma when he hit the ground.

Tian died form his injuries five days later.  Rodriguez was arrested the next week.
