SARASOTA-- A man is safe after barricading himself inside a home in the 2300 block of Pinehurst Street in Sarasota Friday night.

Deputies with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office were on the scene for a couple of hours. Pinehurst Street was blocked off from Dale Street to Beneva Road.

According to a report, the incident started off as a domestic dispute. It quickly turned tense, as the man claimed to have had a gun inside.

When law enforcement arrived, a woman and a child left the home with the man remaining inside. He told deputies if entered the home he would shoot them and go out in a blaze of glory. He then shot his gun 4 times through the front door in the direction of a neighbor’s home across the street.

Around 11:30 p.m., the man exited the home peacefully and surrendered to deputies. He was charged with Shooting in an Occupied Dwelling.

No one was injured, and no homes had to be evacuated.
