SARASOTA - Sarasota Police responded Monday morning to a call regarding an armed subject inside a home.

It happened around 9am at a home on the 2500 block of Pelican Drive.

Sarasota Police escorted a woman to the home to retrieve some of her belongings stemming from a previous domestic dispute.

When they walked back out of the home, the officer heard a shot fired.

Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, as officers tried to make contact with the armed man inside.

Officers used a robot to locate the man, but it appears he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

There were no other injuries.
