MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A call about a possible child abduction this week that investigators say turned out to be a hoax has led to the arrest of the man who made the report.

51-year-old David Walker, Sr. has been charged with Providing False Information to Law Enforcement.

Manatee County Sheriff's detectives say Walker called the sheriff's switchboard on Tuesday, saying he saw a kid taken from a bicycle near 39th Street East and State Road 70.  He described the kid being taken to a tan cargo van, which then drove off westbound and ran a red light.

Responding units discovered a bicycle at the scene, but no children were ever reported missing and no other witnesses came forward.

Walker later admitted to detectives that he had only seen the bicycle on the side of the road, and never saw a child being put in a van.

He was arrested Friday.
