SARASOTA, Fla. - A Sarasota man sits behind bars after authorities say he beat to death a dog that belonged to his own boss. Detectives say Kevin Koscielniak -- an employee at John's Automotive -- killed John's 4-year-old mastiff using a tire iron.

The entire event was caught on a nearby surveillance camera. Now Koscielniak is behind bars and likely not going anywhere anytime soon.

“It's unbelievable because there is no cause for it. Most crimes there is no cause for it, but the dog was not charging him. There was no provocation and we don't know the motive,” says Wendy Rose of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

The motive may have something to do with an incident that happened over the weekend. On Saturday, Koscielniak was asked to leave the auto repair shop, located on Snug Harbor Place off 17th Street in Sarasota, after apparently drinking one too many. A few hours later, surveillance footage shows the man returning to the business -- jumping over a fence, removing the dog from a kennel, and beating the dog to death with a tire iron.

Moments later he is seen wrapping the animal in a blanket, cutting the fence leading to an adjacent business, and burying the dog there.

“There are always people who are just wicked, angry and mean.” Elise Matthes, is president of Sarasota in Defense of Animals, an organization committed to saving canines from abusive situations. “Just when you think you have heard all the abuse anybody could ever inflict on an animal, there is always something else that is more horrendous.”

Koscielniak is facing multiple charges, including one count of cruelty to animals resulting in death and two counts of burglary. His bond is set at $46,000. According to authorities, even though the man had a job, he is homeless and lives in his car.

they should take him out and take a tire iron to him now. If he would do this to an animal he would do it to a person.

People like this, are like ex wives/husbands. They do it to hurt the person that loves the animal the most. It is a revenge thing on the owner who ask him to leave. [sad]
This is why animal abuse should be a felony, it is only a matter of time before a person with these tendancies will start doing it to humans too, if he has not already. Make this a felony crime and the public would be more safe.

If he worked there shouldn't he have known there were cameras? What a cruel, stupid excuse for a human.

No punishment too severe for this crime.

Put him in a cell at the humane society. Preferably with a large angry dog.

This man should just plain stay in jail for good. Every action was calculated and planned. There is no amount of his issues that makes beating an animal to death with a tire iron in anyway acceptable. Infact the authorties probably should look back at his life, he did this with too much ease. He has probably killed before.

Useless excuse for a human being. No amount of jail time is enough for someone like this.
