Man arrested after explosion at Sarasota home

SARASOTA, FL. - Deputies have arrested a man for mixing liquids together in order to cause an explosion.

On Monday around noon, deputies responded to a residence on the 3900 block of Marlborough Place in reference to an explosion.

After investigating it was found that 21-year-old Robert David Allen Branchfield intentionally mixed certain liquids within a container for the purpose of creating an explosion. The explosion occurred outside and at the rear of the property.

Sarasota County Fire along with Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Hazardous Device personnel made the area safe.

No one was injured during the explosion.

Branchfield was arrested for Discharging a Destructive Device.
