LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. -- The annual Sarasota-Manatee Making Strides Against Breast Cancer noncompetitive 5K walk to raise money for research and treatment was today at the Sarasota Polo Club in Lakewood Ranch with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society.
This year's event included a brunch for survivors, activities for children, live music and gifts from sponsors including ABC 7. Thank you to everyone that stopped by the event and said hello to ABC 7's Hayley Wielgus, Alix Redmonde & Max Winitz...and picked up an ABC 7 freebie!
According to Dr. Joshua Kreithen of Lakewood Ranch Plastic Surgery and co-chairman of this year's event, an estimated $150,000 plus around $100,000 in sponsorships had been raised.
Since 1993, more than 9 million cancer charity walkers across the country have raised more than $528 million through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events to help fight breast cancer. Last year alone, dedicated supporters like you raised $68 million nationwide to help the American Cancer Society save more lives to help finish the fight against the disease.
