VENICE, Fla. - A mobile home community in Venice has come together to support the park's well known, yet lonely mascot.

Just recently, residents say a coyote or a fox attacked and killed a female swan at the Bay Indies Mobile Home Park. The death left the male swan at the complex without a partner. Residents say the male is acting differently, and appears depressed.

So Gerri Monnier, a homeowner at Bay Indies, began a fundraising campaign to bring a new swan to the park. She was able to raise about $1000 from her fellow homeowners to purchase a new female.

The swan is expected to arrive sometime in the next two weeks. Morrier is hopeful the new mate will provide companionship, safety and perhaps some "little swans" in the future.
