SARASOTA, Fla. - Two kayakers paddled out of Osprey Wednesday and headed for Key West as they near completion of a 3-year, 11,700 mile journey across North America.

Dave and Amy Freeman are close to wrapping up Stage 6 of their journey, which started in July 2012 in Montreal and has taken them 3,600 miles via kayak to Key West.

In the last 10 years they have traveled over 30,000 miles by kayak, canoe and dog sled through some of the world's wildest places, from the Amazon to the arctic.

They say the really enjoyed their stay here on the Suncoast and were able to fit in a quick visit with a relative that lives right here in Osprey.

Their goal is to gain support and protection for North America’s waterways and introduce over 75,000 elementary and middle school students to wild places though their website and live school assemblies.
