SARASOTA - Jeff Benninghoff, currently Vice President and General Manager of our Sarasota television station WWSB will become Vice President / Broadcast for Calkins Media Incorporated.
In this capacity, Jeff will oversee the day-to-day operations of our three television stations --WAAY in Huntsville, AL, WTXL in Tallahassee, FL and WWSB in Sarasota, FL. He will continue to serve as General Manager of WWSB in addition to these other responsibilities. Art Lanham, General Manager of WAAY and Jason Wildenstein, General Manager of WTXL will report directly to Jeff under this new structure. In this new role, Jeff will continue to report directly to Mark Contreras, CEO Calkins Media Inc.
Calkins Media Inc. is making this move to accelerate efforts to share best practices among all of their television stations as well as their other media properties and digital resources in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Jeff comes to these responsibilities with an impressive track record of accomplishment in broadcasting including more than 10 years in a variety of capacities including station manager at WWSB and nearly 20 years total with Calkins Media Inc.
Jeff leads by example by motivating employees, instilling a sense of urgency about the company mission and in working collaboratively and effectively with colleagues throughout Calkins Media Inc. According to Mark Contreras, "It's these leadership traits that make Jeff a natural fit for this promotion."
Jeff began his career with Calkins Newspapers in 1993 at The Intelligencer in Doylestown. He was promoted to controller of the Burlington Times Inc. in 1998.
He later moved to Florida to become the controller and was subsequently promoted to the station manager position at WWSB. In 2008 he moved back to Pennsylvania as the director of compliance for Calkins Media Inc. In 2009, he was promoted to Vice President of Calkins Media Inc.
His most recent success includes continued improvement in the talent and leadership at WWSB, the joint negotiation of Nielsen contracts across all Calkins Media Inc. broadcast properties and the active sharing of several content initiatives which involved all of the company's media assets.
He also played a key role in the company's most recent strategic planning process working closely with chief digital officer Guy Tasaka and director of business development Myra Cortado and others. His other accomplishments include the oversight of our Western Pennsylvania and South Florida newspapers and leading the company's CEO search process.
Jeff holds a BS from La Salle University and an MBA from University of South Florida, and is a certified public accountant. Jeff and his wife Becky and his two children Bobby and Nora will continue to live on the Suncoast in Sarasota, FL.
