SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - Supporters for Republican James Buchanan packed into Cafe Baci in Sarasota Tuesday night, anticipating a win in the special election for the State House District 72 seat vacated by Alex Miller.  They didn't get what they were looking for, falling to Democrat Margaret Good.

"We left everything out on the field that's all you can do and I'm very proud of the battle that we fought," said Buchanan.  "I want to congratulate Margaret Good on her victory."

Despite this loss, James Buchanan and his supporters held their heads very high, including his dad, Congressman Vern Buchanan.  The congressman had high praise for his son.

"I'm very proud of James as his father," said Representative Buchanan.  "His effort as a lot of people don't want to get in the arena, it's a tough business.  It wasn't something our family encouraged, it's something he wanted to do public service, so I think he's come a long way, grown a lot."

Although people who worked on the campaign are disappointed, they were still happy to be part of the James Buchanan team.

"My role in the James Buchanan campaign was helping to get the vote out, phone banking, door knocking and it was very rigorous and a lot of work, but I think it was worth it," said Rebecca Taylor, a campaign worker for James Buchanan.

"My opinion James is the best person that we need to represent the people of Sarasota especially in Tallahassee," said Peter Cracchiolo, a campaign worker for James Buchanan.

When asked about his political future, James Buchanan says that he's going to talk it over with his wife before making any decisions.
