Investigation under way after child's death in Port Charlotte

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The Charlotte County Medical Examiner and Department of Children and Families have launched an investigation into the death of a 2-year-old girl in a Port Charlotte home.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, a call came in at 6:59pm requesting assistance at a home on Felton Avenue in Port Charlotte.  The caller stated that a dresser had fallen onto a child.

The girl was transported to Bayfront Hospital in Port Charlotte, but was later pronounced dead.
