NORTH PORT, Fla. - An undisclosed number of North Port Police officers are the subject of an administrative investigation, according to a statement released Monday.

The identity of the officers and their allegations are not being released by the department, just that the investigation is looking into the conduct of some of its officers.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation.

"The Department will take the necessary steps to investigate any allegations made against its members to ensure we maintain the public trust. The North Port Police Department holds its officers to the highest standards and will investigate any allegations of misconduct," says the statement.

According to our coverage partners at the North Port Sun, the investigation centers around an incident that occurred over the weekend and may have involved at least two long-time police officers, one on-duty and the other off-duty, handcuffs, and an alleged victim.

No further comment will be made by police until the investigation is complete.

ABC 7 will continue to follow this story as more details are made available.

I take the above back...it was very vague when i first posted. I am glad it's not about the commission meeting and i hope they get to the bottom of it.

Hmmm.... I wonder why multiple Officers are being investigated for conduct? I just find it odd that recently in the paper it was listed that there was a commission meeting where officers and dispatchers, as well as citizens and volunteers, spoke to the commission and asked them to reconsider outsourcing dispatch and why. And now, all of a sudden, an internal investigation for conduct on an "undisclosed number of officers" Do they really think the citizens of North Port are that dumb not to put two and two together?

I surely hope the investigation is not because of that. If so, it would not speak highly of the commission and heads of the PD. Some of the officers are citizens of North Port and have a right to speak about how they feel. Especially when, according to the paper and then viewing the commission meeting video www.cityofnorthport.com for Feb 24, 2014...they were very polite, professional, and cordial. See the video for yourself to see my point.

I just hope that no one would stoop that low, to create a scare tactic for those officers being investigated for trying to support their dispatchers and their City. Hopefully the investigation is about something else. ..
