SARASOTA - As a shooting victim recovers, Sarasota Police hope he holds the key to finding the two men suspected of shooting him.

Police say two men attacked and shot 31-year-old Richard Halbert outside a home on David Avenue near Mecca Drive at about 5:30 Saturday night.

Halbert was taken to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, where he had surgery. Doctors expect him to survive.

If he knows who shot him, he may be able to tell police. Saturday night, they shut down David Avenue and Mecca Drive and brought the SWAT team out to search another home on David, but the shooters got away.

They ask anyone who has helpful information to call Sarasota Police.

Police would not disclose a motive. Halbert has an arrest record for such things as domestic battery and possession of drug paraphernalia.
